2014-03-11 - Winter Speaker Event - Remembering the Asbury Jazz Scene

On Tuesday, March 11, 2014, three gifted musicians and Asbury Park native sons shared their recollections of the city’s jazz scene from the 1940s to today. The event was the next in the Ocean Township Historical Museum’s Speaker Series and augmented its major exhibit at The Eden Woolley House, “Asbury Park: The History of a Jersey Gem.”

Organ virtuoso Gladstone Trott, music educator/keyboardist/horn player Dorian Parreott, and saxophonist Clifford Johnson tell stories of growing up as musical prodigies in a city famous for its music. They talk about the men and women who nurtured their talents and the legendary churches and clubs where they heard and played the music they love. Jon Leidersdorff, musician, music producer, and owner of the Lakehouse, Asbury’s new recording studio and music academy,, moderates.

Funding for Hometown Histories was provided by the New Jersey Cultural Trust.
